Gov. Ambode canvasses constructive criticisms‎

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, on Tuesday, urged residents of the state to support his administration through lofty ideas, suggestions and constructive criticisms that would promote an all-inclusive government.

Amobe said that his administration was ready to engage women, youths, religious bodies, community associations and civil society groups in the process of providing good governance.

Ambode, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, made the appeal at the beginning of activities of the Office of Civic Engagement under the supervision of the Deputy Governor's office.

In his own words:
"During my inaugural speech, I promised to run an all-inclusive government in which all Lagosians will have a say in the way and manner that they are governed.

"We believe that the connection between political leaders and the people must not end with the election process; the people's opinions and ideas are crucial in policy formulation and implementation.

"This event is to create awareness among our people on the existence of the Office of Civic Engagement. The office will, on behalf of government, listen to you and ensure your concerns are adequately addressed,"

Also, Mr Abiola Salami, the guest speaker at the event, said that achieving good governance would require the collective efforts of all.

According to Salami, everyone has a right, responsibility and a role to play in the development plan of the state to drive positive change and transformation.

Similarly, Mr Kehinde Joseph, the Special Adviser to Gov. Ambode on Civic Engagement, said that the office would listen to the people on behalf of the government to aid formulation and evaluation of policies

Joseph urged residents to utilise the opportunity that would be provided by the office to communicate with government.

Ambode, in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2015, had announced the establishment of the Office of Civic Engagement.

He said the office would serve as an interface between government and the civil society.
