South Korea has become the first east Asian country to legalise medical cannabis in a surprising move to expand the treatment options for patients with epilepsy and other rare diseases in the conservative country. The country’s national assembly approved amending the Act on the Management of Narcotic Drugs on Friday to allow non-hallucinogenic doses of medical marijuana. Still, using weed even for medical purpose will be strictly controlled with patients required to apply to the Korea Orphan Drug Centre, a government body facilitating patient access to rare medicines, after receiving a doctor’s prescription. Approval will be granted on a case-by-case basis, according to the country’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. South Korea has some of the toughest rules on cannabis consumption with citizens prosecuted for using weed in other countries where recreational marijuana is legalised. Under the country’s anti-drug laws, smoking and trading marijuana remains illegal with th...

BY: ALAO JOHN, A CONCERNED PROSPECTIVE CORPS MEMBER. Dear Sir; SAVE OUR FUTURE STOP WASTING OUR PRECIOUS TIME With due respect to your office and your personality sir, it would be insane of me if I fail to congratulate you on your appointment as the Director General (DG) National Youth Service Corps few months ago by General Muhammadu Buhari (President Federal Republic of Nigeria). Haven said that, this letter is necessitated and borne out of the untold suffering, heartache and hardship prospective corps members had encountered in the last few months since the beginning of the postponement saga. I  felt obliged to tell you sir that a minute delay can result to a lifetime regret not to talk of spending almost a year at home anticipating for an inconsistent scheme called NYSC. Sir, many have resigned from the menial work they use to keep the body and soul together with the believe that its about time to serve our Father's land. What sicken me m...

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he would not be demanding any apology from British Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron over his diplomatic gaffe, describing Nigeria, along with Afghanistan as 'fantastically corrupt'. ‎President Buhari said instead, he would demand action from Cameron, by returning Nigeria's stolen money and assets stashed in the United Kingdom. Buhari made his frustration clear as he addressed a Commonwealth conference in London Wednesday morning in the wake of Mr Cameron's diplomatic gaffe. Clutching a glass as he made small talk with the Queen at a Buckingham Palace reception, the PM was caught on camera being indiscreet about the countries he had invited to a key anti-corruption summit tomorrow. The Presidency and several other Nigerians, have however, lashed back at the British PM for that scathing remark. This came as the Presidency, yesterday, expressed 'shock' at the unguarded comment, saying that Cameron must have bee...

A BRITISH doctor insists a breakthrough is near which can tackle the effects of ageing and allow humans to live until they are 1,000 years-old. ‎ Doctor Aubrey de Grey likens the human body to a car and is developing a new form of medicine based on regenerative therapies. ‎ He is the co-founder of Strategies for California based Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS) Research Foundation says they have identified seven specific reasons we age, which can all be targeted. ‎ He said: "We are developing a new kind of medicine: regenerative therapies that remove, repair, replace, or render harmless the cellular and molecular damage that has accumulated in our tissues with time" "People have this crazy concept that ageing is natural and inevitable, and I have to keep explaining that it is not. I care about being happy for Jamil, I care about not walking on eggshells. I do want a man that works, that will help me with my fina ncial burden. He doesn't have to be a millionaire or billionaire, but at least someone that helps, and won't put me in more debt." She added that: "The marriage is finally over, it's been over for a while, and I have covered up for a while. What happened was God-sent, and he made it easier for me to walk away with what he did on social media. He got so many people angrier, he pulled so many innocent people into this. Even his family. He ...

Researchers at Philadelphia's Temple University have made a thrilling breakthrough on the path to cure HIV/AIDS. In a recent experiment, they managed to remove HIV-1 DNA out of the human genome. And when they reintroduced HIV to the edited genomes, the cells were no longer infected with the virus .‎ It's a huge leap towards the goal of curing the disease that has killed over 25 million people since the 1980's. Treatment has come a long way in the last few years, yet the scientists said antiretroviral drugs, which can regulate the disease, are not a permanent solution. As soon as a person stops receiving the treatment, their cells are once again open to the infection, and the virus usually progresses into AIDS. At this point, doctors are able to keep the virus at bay, but not cure it. The Temple University scientists may have brought us one step closer to a cure. They employed CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology, first developed in 2012 , to cut HIV-1 out of th...

Abosede Aderibigbe, NYSC's director of press and public relations, made the confirmation while responding to an inquiry by TheCable. Prospective corps members were confused on Friday when a message started circulating online that the orientation programme had been postponed. A statement on the NYSC camp appeared to validate their fears, but there were against reports that the strange time table was the work of hackers who had supposedly gained access to the NYSC website.
