YEAST Now used to make Morphine

Biologists have successfully introduced bacterial and poppy plant genes into yeast to manufacture morphine. The research is important because opiates are medically essential. However, current production via opium poppy leads to supply inefficiencies. A few years ago biologsts demonstrated that a bio- engineered yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) could produce benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (BIA) metabolites, including the alkaloids from which morphine is derived. S. cerevisiae is more commonly used as baker's yeast. In a further development, Stanford University's Christina Smolke and her colleagues have discovered that S. cerevisiae engineering to express additional enzymes can be coaxed to synthesize naturally occurring opiates and semisynthetic opioids from BIA precursor molecules. The results represent a significant step toward engineered yeast–based biomanufacturing of morphine. With the study, yeast strains were engineered to express specific genes from bacteria. Th

Wondering if FARTS (Mess) carry Bacteria?

"It all started with an enquiry from a nurse," Dr Karl Kruszelnicki told listeners to his science phone-in show on the Triple J radio station in Brisbane. "She wanted to know whether she was contaminating the operating theatre she worked in by quietly farting in the sterile environment during operations, and I realised that I didn't know. But I was determined to find out." Dr Kruszelnicki then described the method by which he had established whether human flatus (fart) just merely gives unpleasant smell or actually contains microbes. "I contacted Luke Tennent, a microbiologist in Canberra, and together we devised an experiment. He asked a colleague to break wind (fart) directly onto two Petri dishes from a distance of 5 centimetres, first fully clothed, then with his trousers down. Then he observed what happened. Overnight, the second Petri dish which was done with the trousers down, sprouted visible lumps of two types of bacteria that are usually

Ebola: Another Liberian National Doctor Dies Despite Taking Zmapp!!!

Check this deep and controversial article about God and Ebola

UK Guardian columnist Michelle Hanson wrote this article that has sparked quite a debate on social media about God and why He saved an American doctor and let 1,200 Africans die of the Ebola virus. The writer, who said she gave up on God many years ago, wondered how God works. Find the article below... "Lucky Dr Kent Brantly, the American doctor who has recovered from Ebola, having been given a dose of the experimental antibody serum Zmapp, whizzed home to the US, and given another dose. He is now thanking God for saving his life. Through the medical team and drugs, he admits, but ultimately, it seems, God was in charge. And he chose Brantly, not the other 1,200 mainly west African people who have died horribly, which seems a bit picky." It must be lovely for Brantly to be so sure of things. I tried, aged 10, to work out whether God was around or not, but couldn't. "What was his actual shape?" I wondered. And how could he be everywhere, all at once? How

Governor Amosun closes down OOU over student protests

Earlier in August, the governor slashed fees across all its state-owned tertiary institutions, but while students of other institutions welcomed the development, those of OOU expressed dissatisfaction, engaging in series of protests. In some occasions, the police resorted to using teargas canisters to disperse them. Reports even had it that some students were shot by the police. The governor has now deemed the actions of the students as "threatening the peace of the state", and has urged parents to call them to order, as his government would not condone intolerable acts. He said the decision to close the institution was arrived at after all attempts to pacify the aggrieved students, who were "acting under the influence of external parties", proved abortive, "Security reports have since confirmed that because the students are acting under external influence, no concession made by the government will be satisfactory to them," read a statement

This 3 week old Nigerian baby can already feed herself!!!

At just 3 weeks old, baby Amara Chiedozie can hold her feeding bottle...and her mum, 20 year old student Onyi Chiedozie, claims she's been doing this since was just three days old. How is this even possible? Her mum explains; 'When we were feeding, she started shaking, then she just grabbed the bottle. She was holding it by herself. We couldn't believe it because babies don't normally do it that young. I'm so shocked that I have been documenting it every day. It's unbelievable. "When she doesn't want it she will push it away. She isn't strong enough to throw it away, but she does push it, like she does with her dummy. If she is really hungry, she starts shaking. Then she will just grab the bottle as you give it to her.' TB JOSHUA REVEALS WHO MANUFACTURED EBOLA!!!

Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) declared in his church service on Sunday 17th August2014 that the killer disease Ebola currently ravaging West Africa is from 'the pit of hell'. According to Joshua, who led his congregation in prayer for the nations and individuals affected, time was up for the 'strange ailment' and life would soon return to normal for the affected countries. "The so called strange ailment coming from three nations – Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia… satan is the manufacturer, the source, " Joshua defiantly declared to the faithful. "Begin to capture the covenant of that strange sickness, " the cleric then enjoined the congregation. "Command that strange ailment to come out and go to the pit of hell, in the name of Jesus Christ!" Can Ebola be treated with the blood of survivors?

As part of its bid to tackle Ebola, the World Health Organization (WHO) is considering a potential Ebola treatment that involves using the blood of people who have recovered from an infection to treat those still fighting the virus. As a strong signal that the 'blood transfusion' approach is being seriously considered, a statement from WHO sent to the magazine Science stated: "Convalescent serum is high on our list of potential therapies and has been used in other outbreaks (eg in China during SARS). here is a long history of its use, so lots of experience of what needs to be done, what norms and standards need to be met." Apparently the use of the blood of survivors has been tried before in 1976, when the first outbreaks of Ebola virus were recorded. The results of serum injections are not clear-cut and there is no certainty that these forms of blood transfusions would work. Convalescent serum (serum obtained from one who has recovered

Revealed: Why men sleep after sex

Some people have described sex as one of the sweetest things on earth, and even if it is stressful and requires a lot of strength to do, especially for men, it is a rigorous exercise many people would gladly undertake over and over again. Though, it is no secret that many men nod off straight after sex, some women also sometimes feel sleepy after sex but the phenomenon seems more pronounced in men. To women, the obvious sign of complete 'shutdown' by men moments after a passionate encounter is practically frustrating, and could be accompanied with a loud buzz of snoring. Scientists have given men the perfect excuse for feeling sleepy after sex: 'they just cannot help themselves, and not that they are just selfish.' It is easy to think that men sleep off after sex because they are tired, but findings have shown that it goes beyond that. Scientists have said that men really do need to sleep after sex when they climax because their brains become flooded with sleep-i
